Cutter suction dredgers have excellent performance:

(1) Cutter suction dredgers have a wide range of uses and can operate in rivers, lakes, and seas for dredging, channel excavation, and land reclamation. In special circumstances, high-power cutter equipment can be installed on the cutter suction dredger, allowing it to excavate basalt and limestone rock formations without blasting.

(2) Cutter suction dredgers have high working efficiency, large output, and long pumping distances. Large cutter suction dredgers can produce several thousand cubic meters per hour; they can pump mud, sand, or crushed rock materials thousands of meters away using powerful pumps and discharge pipelines.

(3) Cutter suction dredgers are simple to operate and easy to control. The dredger uses a trolley at the stern to position and move the steel piles, and uses steel cables on both sides of the cutter arm and anchors fixed on both sides of the dredging trench, pulled by winches, to swing and cut the mud and sand materials. It operates within a certain controlled swing angle, pumping the dredged material through a discharge pipe to the disposal area. The dredger moves forward by the alternating movement of two piles.

(4) Large cutter suction dredgers have a self-propulsion system and can self-propel to the site during relocation. Small and medium-sized dredgers mostly do not have a self-propulsion system and are towed by tugboats. Small and medium-sized dredgers can be designed and built in a modular fashion, transported to the site by land, and assembled for use.

(5) Cutter suction dredgers are cost-effective. The excavation and transportation of materials are completed in one go, without the need for other vessels or multiple transfers. This results in relatively lower project costs.
