Dredgers primarily use suction pumps for dredging, so it's no exaggeration to say that the suction pump is the core of the dredger. Especially in cutter suction dredgers, the suction pump is entirely responsible for drawing up the silt. Therefore, regular maintenance of the dredger's suction pump is essential to ensure its high efficiency during dredging operations.
1. Suction Pump Lubrication
The suction pump operates using lubricating oil for its bearing components. Without lubricating oil, the friction between the components will increase, potentially leading to serious damage. Therefore, regular lubrication of the suction pump is necessary to ensure the normal operation of all components.
2. Anti-corrosion Maintenance
The suction pump is frequently exposed to silt and water during operation. Long-term exposure to large amounts of muddy water can lead to oxidation of the pump casing if not properly maintained. Although the pump casing is coated with waterproof paint, prolonged use can cause the paint to wear off. Therefore, regular application of waterproof paint and proper waterproofing of the suction pump are crucial.
3. Impeller Replacement
After prolonged use, the impeller will experience varying degrees of wear (a basic type of component failure). Therefore, regular inspection and maintenance of the impeller are essential. If the impeller is found to be severely worn, it should be replaced immediately to ensure the suction pump performs optimally.
